Self-Care Isn’t Bubble Baths: It’s Boundaries, Breakdowns, and Becoming

When most people hear the phrase “self-care,” they think of spa days, scented candles, and long soaks in bubble baths. And while all of that is great (trust me, I love a lavender bath bomb as much as the next girl), that’s not the full story.
Real self-care? It’s not always pretty.
Sometimes self-care means saying “no” even when it disappoints others.Sometimes it looks like dragging yourself to therapy even when you’d rather stay in bed.Sometimes it’s crying in your car after finally cutting off a toxic relationship. It’s not glamorous—but it’s growth.
We’ve been taught that self-care is about feeling good. But I believe the most powerful self-care moments are the ones that make you feel real—even if they hurt.Because self-care isn’t about escaping your pain. It’s about facing it, holding it, and letting it teach you something.
The truth is, healing can get ugly before it gets beautiful. You might feel lost before you feel found. But if you keep going—if you keep choosing you—you’ll find your way back to yourself.
So if you’re in a season of breakdowns, boundary-setting, or becoming someone new... that is self-care. That is brave. That is beautiful.
And you don’t have to post it on Instagram for it to count.
🖤 Take care of you, even when it’s hard. Especially then.
